What are others saying about participating with Team JDRF?

“I ran in the Disney 5K race this past January and while the race is huge, whenever I saw another runner with the Team JDRF shirt, I felt a sense of pride and bonding. Together we ran to make this a world of ‘type none’” - Kay Stone

“Even though no one else from our chapter was participating, Team JDRF did an amazing job of building a virtual community. We were welcomed into a group of runners from around the country!” - Helen Nightingale

"I run with Team JDRF for my nephew, Patrick, who was diagnosed with T1D in 2010. Running marathons with Team JDRF is my way of supporting my sister. I’ve run 5 marathons, all fundraising for JDRF. I love the sense of community Team JDRF brings, our marathon family is amazing!" - Tracy Collyer

“I was never one to be very open about my diabetes but fundraising with Team JDRF made me realize how much of an impact we can have on other T1D's. I love the support I get from my teammates, the Team JDRF celebration before and after the race, and the community of other diabetics who know what it's like to live and train with this disease is something very special.” - Daniel O’ Neil

“After my son, Michael was diagnosed with T1D when he was 12 years old, I became an active JDRF supporter. I participated in the JDRF Ride program for many years and then decided to join Team JDRF after I took up running. I didn’t start running until my 60th birthday. Since then, I have run 7 marathons with Team JDRF including 4 Dopey Challenges. It’s so much fun meeting other JDRF supporters from around the country and we're all there for the same goal- to raise funds to find a cure.” - Barry Falcon

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can run?

Team JDRF is in alignment with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series minimum age requirements.

Full marathon participants must be at least 18 years or older by race day. Half marathon participants must be 12 years or older by race day. 10K participants must be 10 years or older by race day. 5K participants must be 8 years or older by race day.

All participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied on the course at all times by a parent or guardian (who will be a registered fundraising participant) and must have a signed parental/guardian consent form.

Do I get any fun Rock ‘n’ Roll Commemorative items?
Yes, in addition to the benefits that you get for being part of Team JDRF, you will also receive some special items from the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. Some of those items include: live musical entertainment along the course, admission into the finish line festival and post-race concert, official Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon participant shirt (styles vary by race distance), gear bag, and a personalized bib opportunity when you reach fundraising minimums by benchmark dates. Full marathon participants who finish the race will also receive an official Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon finisher jacket.

How much time do I have to commit to this?
How much time you train is completely up to you. Your JDRF Coach can help you determine the best time commitment for your fitness level. If you are a novice, most coaches will recommend you begin training 16 weeks before a full marathon and 12 weeks before a half marathon.

Does the $100 registration fee count towards my fundraising?
Yes! The $100 required registration fee will be the first donation to your Team JDRF fundraising campaign.

Are there course time limits for each race distance?
Yes! The course time limits vary by distance and event in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. If you aren’t sure and want further details on time limits, click here.

Is there a fundraising minimum?
Yes, as a participant, you'll commit to a fundraising minimum (packages start at $500). In exchange, JDRF will provide you with support during the months and weeks leading up to the Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon series event. Please consult the fundraising packages guide for more information about minimums and benefits.

Is there a deadline for meeting my fundraising minimums?
Yes. We understand that this may be the most money you have ever attempted to raise, and you may feel unsure about whether you will be able to do it. If you follow the recommended guidelines and use the fundraising resources JDRF provides, you will be more successful than you think! Contact your JDRF Chapter if you need additional assistance brainstorming ideas to help you reach your goals. Not to worry though, if you don’t reach your minimum, which we know you will exceed, you have 30 days after the event to continue raising funds!

What if I need to drop from the race?
Any participant dropping after 45 days from their event date, for any reason, will be responsible for completing 75% of their fundraising minimum, in addition to payments to JDRF for any costs incurred for accommodations arranged for them for the race. Registration fees are non-refundable. Any donations received will remain in the participant’s account. Transferring of money to any other participant’s account is not permitted.

If I decide to select a different fundraising package, can I switch them?
You may submit a request to JDRF to change your fundraising package, by 45 days from your event date. This request may result in a different minimum donation required to be paid by or on behalf of the participant. JDRF reserves the right to decline such change to your package.

Isn’t it hard to meet the fundraising requirement?
Not according to our past participants. Once you start contacting people, you will be surprised how quickly the money (and the admiration) rolls in. JDRF has created powerful online fundraising tools to make it easier for you to reach your goal, and your local JDRF chapter will help you with materials, ideas and support as you meet and exceed your goal.

Will I have help fundraising?
Yes! Every participant has the support and help of the fundraising experts at their local chapter who are with them every step of the way, from the first donation to the day you exceed your minimum and increase your goal. In addition, the Team JDRF endurance program has a library of tools and tips that every registered runner has access to.

If you have any questions about your ability to meet your fundraising minimum, contact teamjdrf@jdrf.org and we are happy to talk fundraising with you.

Where is my local chapter?
