Who can run?
Team JDRF is in alignment with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon minimum age requirements.
Do I get any fun Bank of America Chicago Marathon Commemorative items?
Yes, in addition to the benefits that you get for being part of Team JDRF, you will also receive some special items from the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Some of those items include: exciting cheer stations along the course, admission into the finish line festival and post-race activities, official Bank of America Chicago Marathon participant shirt (styles vary by race distance), gear bag, and 2019 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Medal.
How much time do I have to commit to this?
How much time you train is completely up to you. Given the length of this race, we ask runners to respect the challenge of this course and train appropriately. Your JDRF Coach can help you determine the best time commitment for your fitness level. If you are a novice, most coaches will recommend you begin training 16 weeks before a full marathon and 12 weeks.
For this race, Team JDRF provides virtual training for ALL runners that will begin 20 weeks from race day. Local runners will also have the opportunity to sign up for group training at a discounted price.
Does the registration fee count towards my fundraising?
Yes! The required registration fee ($50) will be the first donation to your Team JDRF fundraising campaign.
Are there course time limits for each race distance?
Yes. The event has a course time limit of 6 hours and 30 minutes. The official end vehicle will start following the last starter and maintain a 15-minute per mile pace along the race course.
Is there a fundraising minimum?
Yes, as a participant using a JDRF guaranteed entry, you'll commit to a fundraising minimum (packages start at $1,500). In exchange, JDRF will provide you with support during the months and weeks leading up to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Please consult the fundraising packages guide for more information about minimums and benefits.
No, if you secure your own entry, you are not held accountable to any fundraising minimum. When you raise $750 or more, you unlock team benefits.
Is there a deadline for meeting my fundraising minimums?
Yes. We understand that this may be the most money you have ever attempted to raise, and you may feel unsure about whether you will be able to do it. If you follow the recommended guidelines and use the fundraising resources JDRF provides, you will be more successful than you think! Contact Abbie if you need additional assistance brainstorming ideas to help you reach your goals.
Runners who do not raise the full minimum commitment by the time of the race expo will NOT be able to participate.
*If I am accepting a JDRF secured entry, I CONFIRM THAT I UNDERSTAND that am responsible for raising or donating 100% of my fundraising minimum. JDRF reserves the right to charge my credit card on file for the remaining balance.
What if I need to drop from the race?
Any participant dropping after officially taking a Team JDRF entry, for any reason, will be responsible for completing 75% of their fundraising minimum, in addition to payments to JDRF for any costs incurred for accommodations arranged for them for the race. Registration fees are non-refundable. Any donations received will remain in the participant’s account. Transferring of money to any other participant’s account is not permitted.
Bank of America Chicago Marathon does NOT allow for Charity Entries to be deferred or transferred and therefore, JDRF must comply with all race policy.
Isn’t it hard to meet the fundraising requirement?
Not according to our past participants. Once you start contacting people, you will be surprised how quickly the money (and the admiration) rolls in. JDRF has created powerful online fundraising tools to make it easier for you to reach your goal. Abbie at the JDRF Illinois Chapter will help you with materials, ideas and support as you meet and exceed your goal.
Will I have help fundraising?
Yes! Every participant has the support and help of the fundraising experts who are with them every step of the way, from the first donation to the day you exceed your minimum and increase your goal. In addition, the Team JDRF endurance program has a library of tools and tips that every registered runner has access to.
If you have any questions about your ability to meet your fundraising minimum, contact email@example.com and we are happy to talk fundraising with you.
