Come run with Team JDRF in the 2019 Flying Pig Marathon!
Team JDRF participants* join in on the fun of the Flying Pig Marathon through miles, medals, and most importantly moments! This is your moment to fundraise and help turn type one into type none! There’s something for everyone at this event with race distances ranging from 5Ks to full marathons.
When you join Team JDRF, we’re committed to supporting you with personalized training and fundraising support before and throughout the race weekend. Know that you every step you take brings us closer to our finish line—a world without T1D.
As a member of Team JDRF, you have access to the Fleet Feet Flying Pig Training Program. This is an 18 week program that is normally $150, but JDRF Flying Pig Participants are able to sign up for this program for only $25! Once you register with Team JDRF for the Flying Pig, we will send you an access code to sign up for this training program if you choose to do so. The last day to join the Fleet Feet Flying Pig Training Program for 2019 is Friday, January 25. Team JDRF participants will get the benefits that Fleet Feet training program participants receive, including but not limited to a weekly training schedule from Fleet Feet coaches, up to three weekly group workouts, pace group leaders, and FREE injury screenings by Oxford Physical Therapy. There are two Fleet Feet Training Info sessions coming up that you are invited to attend if you would like more information:
*Please note: As a participant with Team JDRF, you are eligible for a special promotional code to register for your selected Flying Pig Event that will waive your event registration fee. When you have reached 50% of your respective fundraising minimum, this code will be emailed to you so that you can then officially register for the Flying Pig. All of the fundraising minimums for each event are listed out on the “Fundraising Details” page. If you have already registered for the Flying Pig on your own and still want to fundraise for JDRF, please sign up under the “JDRF Supporter” package. Team JDRF is a partnership: you commit to raising a minimum dollar amount and in exchange, JDRF provides you with support, coaching and fun perks in the months leading up to and throughout the Flying Pig Marathon. Upon registering, you are asked to select your race distance. Team JDRF is pleased to offer a variety of packages designed for all skill levels!

Who can run?
Team JDRF is in alignment with the Flying Pig Marathon minimum age requirements:
Full marathon participants must be at least 18 years or older by race day. Half marathon participants must be 14 years or older by race day. 10K participants must be 12 years or older by race day.
How much time do I have to commit to this?
How much time you train is completely up to you. If you are a novice, most coaches will recommend you begin training 16 weeks before a full marathon and 12 weeks before a half marathon.
Does the $50 registration fee count towards my fundraising?
Yes! The $50 required registration fee will be the first donation to your Team JDRF fundraising campaign.
Are there course time limits for each race distance?
Yes! The course time limits vary by distance and event in the Flying Pig. If you aren’t sure if you want further details on time limits, visit the Flying Pig website (www.flyingpigmarathon.com).
Is there a fundraising minimum?
Yes, as a participant, you'll commit to a fundraising minimum (packages start at $350). In exchange, JDRF will provide you with support during the months and weeks leading up to the Flying Pig Marathon. Please consult the fundraising packages guide for more information about minimums and benefits.
What are the requirements for the corporate or open relay?
The fundraising minimum for either of these relay options is $2,400 for the entire team. Relay teams consist of 4 individuals, each responsible for raising $600 to collectively total $2,400. If you have a team of less than 4 people interested in participating, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
Is there a deadline for meeting my fundraising minimums?
Yes. We understand that this may be the most money you have ever attempted to raise, and you may feel unsure about whether you will be able to do it. If you follow the recommended guidelines and use the fundraising resources JDRF provides, you will be more successful than you think! Contact your JDRF Staff Member if you need additional assistance brainstorming ideas to help you reach your goals. Not to worry though, if you don’t reach your minimum, which we know you will exceed, you have 30 days after the event to continue raising funds!
What if I need to drop from the race?
Any participant dropping after 30 days from their event date, for any reason, will be responsible for completing 75% of their fundraising minimum, in addition to payments to JDRF for any costs incurred for accommodations arranged for them for the race. Registration fees are non-refundable. Any donations received will remain in the participant’s account. Transferring of money to any other participant’s account is not permitted.
Isn’t it hard to meet the fundraising requirement?
Not according to our past participants. Once you start contacting people, you will be surprised how quickly the money (and the admiration) rolls in. JDRF has created powerful online fundraising tools to make it easier for you to reach your goal, and your JDRF staff member will help you with materials, ideas and support as you meet and exceed your goal.
Will I have help fundraising?
Yes! Every participant has the support and help of the fundraising experts at their local chapter who are with them every step of the way, from the first donation to the day you exceed your minimum and increase your goal. In addition, the Team JDRF endurance program has a library of tools and tips that every registered runner has access to.
